Walk into a Ready for School Saturday and you'll see kids playing games, not sitting through lessons — but every activity is quietly building a specific readiness skill.
9:00am — Arrival games
Free play as everyone settles in, with facilitators weaving in turn-taking and sharing prompts without making it feel like a lesson.
9:30am — Circle time
Following multi-step instructions, sitting in a group, and waiting for a turn to speak — all foundational classroom skills, practiced through songs and simple routines.
10:15am — Structured activity
A hands-on task (cutting, tracing, building) that builds fine motor control and the ability to follow a task through to completion.
By the time drop-off comes around, most kids don't realise how much they've practiced — which is exactly the point.
